A RESOLUTION ON THE CREATION OF THE SOUTHERN METHODIST UNIVERSITY STUDENT LEADERSHIP HISTORICAL COMMISSION
WHEREAS Southern Methodist University has an expansive history of student leadership that has paralleled the success of the University since its founding and opening in 1911 and 1915, respectively, and
WHEREAS this history is unknown to the vast majority of individuals currently involved in student leadership roles throughout the Southern Methodist University Community, and
WHEREAS there currently exists no complete historical record of the activities of Southern Methodist University students in regard to leadership in a context similar to the current role of the Southern Methodist University Student Senate, and
WHEREAS there is great intellectual value in the study of past accomplishments, especially to the body of the Southern Methodist University Student Senate, and
NOTING the existence of records from the Southern Methodist University Student Senate and the Southern Methodist University Student Center Governing Board, and the Student Bar Association, among others, and
AWARE that a careful study of past events and interactions is essential for future success, and
BE IT THEREFORE
RESOLVED that the Southern Methodist University Student Senate establish an Ad Hoc committee to compile an extensive collection of records regarding student leadership within the Southern Methodist University community from the founding of the University to the present day, which shall be a date determined by the Chair of the Ad Hoc Committee to be not before the date of the passage of this legislation, and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that the aforementioned Ad Hoc committee be titled “The Southern Methodist University Student Leadership Historical Commission” and shall contain an appointed Chair and Vice Chair, and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that the Southern Methodist University Student Leadership Historical Commission present, with intent to publish, the compilation of student leadership activities and historical data to the Southern Methodist University Student Senate before the final meeting of the 104th Student Senate, unless a resolution is passed by the voting Senate body prior to that meeting to extend the deadline for the compilation of the record, and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that the scope and focus of the report of the Southern Methodist University Student Leadership Historical Commission be not mandated by the Student Senate as a whole, rather, be it at the discretion of the appointed Chair and Vice Chair to determine the range and/or concentration of the compilation, and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that the Student Body President appoint a Chair to the Southern Methodist University Student Leadership Historical Commission within seven (7) days of the passage of this legislation to serve for the duration of the committee’s existence, and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that the appointed Chair of the Southern Methodist University Student Leadership Historical Commission appoint a Vice Chair within seven (7) days of his/her appointment to serve for a similar duration of time, and assume the chairmanship in the event of the Chair’s resignation.
