What is SMU Student Senate?

     Southern Methodist University's Student Senate is the student governing body of the SMU Student's Association (All enrolled students). The body consists of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Graduate Affairs Officer, and a collections of Senators from each academic school within the University. Each Senator represents approximately 300 individual students from within their school of record, and are responsible for conveying any pertinent information to their ~300 constituents.

     Student Senate is responsible for chartering new student organizations, as welll as finance and budgets for existing organizations.

     Senators write legislation as formal recommendations to the administration of SMU, as well as directly interact with both students and administration through participation on one or more Senate Committees.
